Shoe Or Foot Driving Which One Is The Best ? by heritage00(m): 8:46am On May 17, 2009
Hello everyone,i will like to ask if putting on a shoe is more comfortable than ordinary foot driving,as for me i am use to foot driving,i have tried many times to drive with my shoes but find it very difficult cos i am not use to it but i think putting on a shoe will be best, especially when i am on a boot wear i find it very stressful when ever i want to come down from the car will have to keep putting it on and off every time and its very stressful, what do you think
Re: Shoe Or Foot Driving Which One Is The Best ? by ElRazur: 9:11am On May 17, 2009
It depends on various things. The car in question, the type of shoe and the individual. In cars like Citroen, Peugeout et al. The foot pedals are very close together and I have in the past taken off my shoes to drive them. While, on most cars I just drive with my shoe on. Having said that, if the shoe is a bit uncomfortable, then I will take them off, especially if am driving long distance.

You probably need to get used to driving different cars, with different shoes.

I for one drive different cars with shoes / sandals / trainers etc, and honestly can't remember what it's like driving bare foot.

Personally i prefer foot driving but it's really inconvenient when you have to stop, come down, go somewhere and do it all over again all day! I think it's good to learn shoe driving.

Before anybody bites my head off .  I think it is only a Naija thing where people drive with bare feet.  Bare feet driving is so dangerous as there is little or no friction.  In my years of driving i have never met anyone outside of Nigeria who drives with bare feet.

grin Bros, weather hot, that's why the bare feet driving. I disagree that bare foot driving is dangerous. There is plenty friction and when one is used to it it's easy. For me, shoe driving is a bit dangerous cos i experience no friction. But i'm working on it cos bare feet driving no possible outside naija. cheesy

Foot driving is good, but for your convenience, its better to learn driving with shoes. Imagine coming to a gathering and after parking, instead of alighting from your vehicle as expected, you are busy bending down in your car, lacing your shoes. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

i think an expert driver will find it comfortable driving either with shoes or barefooted
I started driving barefooted but with time i adapted to shoes, I think after driving for a couple of years anyone can drive either way or even with boots experience is the best teacher especially with driving

Am suprised to see that majority of ppl drive bare footed. Am teaching my mom drivin and she has been doin well without removing her shoes.
I think shoes are a little important in long distance driving coz i get tired of pressing down the accelerator bare footed. The shoes are additional weight to help press and hold down the accelerator.

This is a ridiculous question, why would anyone who can drive with or without a footwear own a licence?

Good loafers with soft leather and rubber sole, could be excellent while driving,
Re: Shoe Or Foot Driving Which One Is The Best ? by chipass(m): 3:12pm On Jun 01, 2009
Driving is habitual. So how you learnt has a huge influence on how you drive. If you learnt to drive barefoot, driving with shoes will not feel right and vice versa. Same goes for seat belt, seating close to the steering wheel, e.t.c.

In my opinion, driving with shoes is best. Why? Well, the best drivers in the world (think formula 1) drive with their shoes on!

I have met many people here, mostly ladies who drive bare feet. There's no rule to it. I remember a discussion where one lady said she needs to understand how much pressure she applies on the pedals with her bare feet. Each to his/her own. But to say nowhere else does it happen may be incorrect

Foot driving all the way. . .more comfy. . .especially if your on high heels. . .
Re: Shoe Or Foot Driving Which One Is The Best ? by samparian(m): 12:56pm On Jul 07, 2009
It all depends on the distance and what you're wearing.
If i'm wearing slippers, sandals or Half shoes (PON) i'd drive barefoot but if i'm putting on shoes, sneakers or boots, i drive with them on especially if i'm cruising inside town.
If have have to drive from city to city, i go barefoot. its more comfortable. imagine driving for 12 hours straight with a shoe!!! you'd go nuts.

try driving from Maiduguri to Enugu in 12 hours with a shoe on.

i'm glad you said OUTSIDE NIGERIA. most folks abroad rarely use their cars and when they do, it's within reasonable distances cos they have alternative means of transport and besides their weather is different from ours.
I drive outside Nigeria but always with my boots/shoes on. Imagine driving barefoot in winter. hell, i cant even leave my bedroom without wearing a bunny slipper grin

depends on the kind of shoes and if u want d shoe to last
all stars vans kind maybe comfortable and pose no stress but regular formal shoes make tend to break and maybe be difficult to drive with

How long does it take to put on shoes?
I rarely drive with my shoes on and it takes less than 30 seconds to put on my shoes.
Even if it takes some time for some people, they may think you are searching for something in your car grin
Re: Shoe Or Foot Driving Which One Is The Best ? by Jarus(m): 1:24pm On Jul 07, 2009
I'm personally indifferent. I can drive with or without shoe, or with any shoe, boot, slippers, anything. i don't have any preference at all.
But I see people around me having preferences. Mum can't drive with shoes on, a colleague prefer to drive with slippers and has one pair of slippers permanently in hsi car for taht purpose, some can't drive with office shoes etc.

I'm totally indifferent.

I will never be comfortable driving with shoes, it just won't work for me. I haven't tried it, don't want to cos i'll feel funny and probably messy with my driving.
